NEW DELHI (Commodities control) Wheat prices firmed up Rs. 10-20 per quintal today in mandis of Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Traders told that buying improved from flour millers and other wheat consuming industries. They expected further upward trend in the weeks to come because of festival demand. However, the prices remained stable in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Mill quality wheat rose to Rs. 1770-1780 per quintal in Delhi with gain of Rs. 10 per quintal. A trader from Naya Bazaar Mr. Rajesh Jain told that better buying from flour millers supported market sentiments. Even higher supply consumed in Delhi’s mandis. Today, wheat arrival was estimated at around 10,000 bags which was around double from average arrival of last week.

The prices increased Rs. 20 to Rs. 1620-1640 per quintal in Bareilly. Earlier, It was traded at Rs. 1610-1620 per quintal. Bareilly region is favourite buying centre for flour millers and consumer industries situated in adjoining hilly state Uttarakhand. Barielly based trader Mr. Raju Khandelwal told that millers were buying wheat in hope of better demand of products in coming festival season. Demand of biscuit, bakery products along with Maida, Sooji increases in festival season. Kanpur market also witnessed price rise of Rs. 10 to Rs. 1620-1630 per quintal.

However, there was no improvement in demand and prices in Rajasthan’s mandis. Various varieties of wheat were traded at previous rates in Kota, Baran and Bundi. Kota based trader Mr. Uttam Jethwani told that there was no indication of better buying in Mandis of Rajasthan. Only rail rake supplies to southern states continued in mandis. There was no significant demand from northern markets because of distance. The proximity of mandis of Uttar Pradesh to Delhi was beneficial for the trade. Higher road freight charge discourages north Indian buyers in Rajasthan markets. One has to pay around Rs. 120-160 per quintal freight. It meants than any buying from Rajasthan will cost more. While, road freight is around Rs. 60-100 per quintal. Therefore, buying from Rajashtan’s mandis remained weak. Similarly, the prices were stable in MP’s mandis also.
