Mumbai (Commodities Control) - Spot cardamom prices upped Rs 200 per Kg in Thekkdy auction center of Idukki district due to trade shutdown in primary markets and demand from commission agents. The auction centre reported arrivals of nearly 75.30 tons and nearly everything was sold.

The average quoted price at the auction centre was Rs 1681 per Kg,up from Rs 1483 quoted in the previous session. The highest bid for the day was at Rs 2149 per Kg.

Heavy rains are suspected to have destroyed crop in the producing regions, although a confirmation is awaited. Rain disrupted trade in primary markets as well, this is the reason why commission agents went on a shopping spree.
