Govt Procures Over 338 Lk MT Wheat So Far

Mumbai (Commodities Control) – Food Corporation of India has procured over 338 lakh tonnes of wheat in the ongoing Rabi Marketing Season 2020-21 against the set target of 407 lakh tonnes.

The procurement however started with a delay of 15 days.

According to a tweet by Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister, Ram Vilas Paswan, Government procurement of wheat and rice is currently on. In his tweet dated 23rd May, he stated that FCI has so far procured 338.46 Lakh tonnes of wheat and 464.79 Lk tonnes of rice.

It is to be noted that Government agencies are directly procuring wheat and rice from farmers of major producing states at minimum support price (MSP). Currently the procurement drive is continues in Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, UP, MP, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Chattisgarh, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.

Paswan says that between 25th March and 22nd May, via OMSS nearly 4.93 Lk tonnes of wheat and 7.35 lakh tonnes of rice have been disbursed into open market.

Relief centres and self-help organisations have been provided with 857 tonnes of wheat at the rate of Rs 21/kg and 7536 tonnes of rice at the rate of Rs 22/Kg so far.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana (PMGKAY), nearly 20 crore families below poverty line have been provided with free grains.

So far 5.88 lakh tonnes of pulses have been disbursed. According to Paswan, NAFED sent 4.25 lk tonnes of pulses to states across the nation, out of 3.19 lk tonnes of pulses have been lifted off.

He added that until 23rd May FCI has loaded 94.25 lk tonnes of food grains in 3366 rail racks to be sent across various states.
