MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - The price of red chilli prices fell further at the major Warangal market on Tuesday as arrivals of the new crop rose sharply after Makar Sankranti and Pongal.

The price of Teja variety at Warangal softened by Rs 10 to 150-170 per kg. The price of 341 variety also declined by Rs 4 to Rs 140-172 per kg.

A total of 7,000 bags of new red chilli arrived at the Warangal market today.

According to traders, chilli prices may continue to decline as arrivals of the fresh crop will gain momentum in the coming weeks.

Chilli production in Andhra Pradesh, the largest producer, is seen up 9.8 percent at 692,000 tonnes against 630,000 tonnes in the previous year, according to the state agriculture department's second advance estimate.
