NEW DELHI (Commoditiescontrol) - In the backdrop of deficient rainfall in several parts of the state, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday directed the officers concerned to immediately conduct Girdawari (crop loss assessment), to assess the situation of all the standing crops in the state and send its report.

The overall rainfall deficiency in the state till Sept 21 was at 42 percent since the start of the season.

An official spokesperson said that during the monsoon, some areas have reportedly received very less rainfall than normal rainfall.

He said that the Chief Minister has directed the concerned officers, to get Girdawari completed by September 30, to assess the damage caused to standing crops due to 30 percent or less, than the normal rainfall in the state and immediately send its report so that farmers could be compensated in time, for the damage caused to their standing crops.

The main crops of cotton and paddy have suffered extensive damage in the state as farmers are resorting to destroying their standing crops which have gone pale due to lack of irrigation.

Crops such as moong and guar were also affected 50 percent to 100 percent in areas like Balsamand, Adampur and Barwala.

Agricultural scientists maintained that with 42 percent deficient rainfall, the crop yield was likely to come down drastically.
