India Cotton Planting Progresses 99.4% of Normal Area Avg

NEW DELHI (Commoditiescontrol) - Cotton planting reached 121.72 lakh ha as of September 21, ahead 19 percent compared to same period last year at 102.56 lakh ha according to Ministry of Agriculture.

Cotton planting has progressed 99.4 percent of the total normal area(5 year avg) at 122.46 lakh ha and remained ahead 6 percent from the normal area as on date at 114.88 lakh ha showing signs of positivity in planting.

North India: First lot of new crop supply has commenced with total arrival, as of date, at 108,150 bales of 170kg (totaled to 50,650 bales as of last week).

Amongst the lot, Punjab procured 27,800 bales(totaled to 13,300 bales as of last week), Haryana procured 53,650 bales(totaled to 26,650 bales as of last week) and Rajasthan including Lower Rajasthan 26,300 bales(totaled to 10,300 bales as of last week).

However, the moisture content was quite high ranging between 15-25 percent.

Central India: Weather conditions remained favorable with good rains across Madhya Pradesh which slowed picking to some extent while light to moderate rains were reported in Maharashtra.

New crop supply commenced from farmers who resorted to early sowing during May. Total arrivals as of date as reached 28,300 bales(Madhya Pradesh 9,600 bales, Gujarat 13,500 and Maharashtra 5,200 bales).

South India: Most regions were receiving light rains on timely intervals and no major crop concerns were reported. Pest intensity was recorded at low levels and timely sprayed pesticides will curb growth in certain regions.

New crop arrivals hit certain regions of Telangana however the volume was miniscule.

Following data is the state wise cotton acreage report as on September 21. The weekly report is compiled by Directorate of Cotton Development, Nagpur and released by Ministry of Agriculture, India.
