Mumbai, February 20 (Commoditiescontrol): Maize prices demonstrated a steady trend with a positive bias across major centers in India. In Gulab Bagh, maize prices experienced an increase of Rs 20 per quintal, reaching Rs 2340-2370 per quintal. The depleting stocks held by stockists are contributing to the firmness in prices, and the supply position is weak in the Bihar zone.
The government has initiated the supply of maize to distillers at Rs 2291 per quintal, encompassing all procurement costs and agency margins. This rate surpasses the current Minimum Support Price (MSP) of maize, which stands at Rs 2090 per quintal. Distillers are required to cover transportation costs from the mandi to the distiller warehouse.
In the Karnataka maize market, there is increased movement despite a sharp decline in arrivals. However, both buyers and sellers are currently inactive. Prices have remained steady at Rs 2350 per quintal over the past few weeks.
Chindwara prices held steady at Rs 2300-2310 per quintal, while Maharashtra prices also remained unchanged at Rs 2300 per quintal.
Anticipating no crop supplies in the coming month, maize prices are expected to trade steadily or show a firm trend in the near term.
