Ahmedabad, April 20 (CommoditiesControl): Today, cumin prices witnessed a softening trend in Gujarat, declining by Rs 50 per 20 kg due to limited demand in the local market. Additionally, there has been a continuous decrease in arrivals, with minimal inflow observed in the local market. Furthermore, the ongoing Lok Sabha elections have also contributed to reduced arrivals from Rajasthan.

A trader from Unjha Mandi commented on the cumin market trend, stating that while export business remains sluggish, local traders are only purchasing goods as per immediate requirements. The trader highlighted that fluctuations in market prices are influenced by the quantity of goods purchased by traders; increased buying activity leads to price hikes, whereas reduced buying results in immediate price declines.

Explaining the reason behind this behavior, traders noted that this year, Gujarat is expected to produce 85-90 lakh bags of cumin, while local consumption stands at 35-40 lakh bags. Therefore, traders are confident of obtaining goods whenever needed, diminishing the possibility of significant price surges.

According to the trader, around 22,000 bags arrived in Unjha Mandi today, comprising 15,000 bags from Rajasthan and around 8,000 bags locally. The prices recorded were as follows: rough cumin at Rs 3650-3950 per 20 kg, best quality at Rs 4300-4500 per 20 kg, and Bombay Bold at Rs 4500-5300 per 20 kg.

In Gondal Mandi, prices ranged from Rs 4241-4391 per 20 kg, with arrivals totaling 437 bags. Meanwhile, in Rajkot Mandi, approximately 700 bags arrived, priced at Rs 3600-4300.
