Mumbai, 30 Apr 2024 (Commoditiescontrol):Domestic masur prices remain stable as weak demand from mills offsets reduced arrivals in local mandis. A decline in imports, caused by import disparity and limited stock availability in overseas origins, further contributes to price stability. Rumors of a government crackdown on hoarders in major growing states add to the dampened market sentiment.
Farmers are reportedly holding back their produce in anticipation of selling to the government at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). However, lack of clarity on MSP procurement timelines is causing uncertainty among farmers.
Meanwhile, the Cost and Freight (CIF) price of Canadian-origin red lentils in Mumbai remains unchanged at $720-725 per MT, with Kolkata port quoting $730-735 per MT.
The domestic masur market is likely to see continued price stability or even a slight decline. Without government MSP purchases, a significant price rise is unlikely. The rumored crackdown on hoarders adds to the factors keeping prices in check.
