Mumbai, May 6 (CommoditiesControl): Small cardamom prices experienced a downturn in major markets, driven by subdued demand at elevated price levels. This decline comes after reaching an eight-month high, with weak demand emerging as a consequence of sudden price spikes. The market sentiment was further weighed down by increased arrivals, contributing to the downward pressure on prices.
The average price per kilogram ranged between Rs 1,936 and Rs 1,948, marking a decrease from the previous session's range of Rs 2,008 to Rs 2,061 per kg. However, the highest reported price per kg was Rs 2,962, up from Rs 2,686 in the preceding session.
Arrivals witnessed a significant uptick, reaching 105,740 kg compared to 82,786 kg in the previous session. Correspondingly, offtake also rose to 96,600 kg from 81,817 kg in the previous session. Despite the increase in arrivals, the offtake rate declined to 91.4% from 98.8% in the previous session, underscoring the pressure on demand.
Grade-specific rates remained relatively stable, with prices for 7 mm grades ranging between Rs 1,740 and Rs 1,820 per kg, Rs 1,920 to Rs 2,000 per kg for grades 7-8 mm, and Rs 2,200 to Rs 2,360 per kg for grades 8 mm and above.
