Mumbai, 29 Apr 2024 (Commoditiescontrol):Domestic masur prices remained largely stable across key Indian markets as trading activity eased. The government's crackdown on hoarders in major production regions and port cities has influenced the market, limiting significant price fluctuations.
Sources indicate that masur arrivals continue to slow down as farmers hold their stock in anticipation of government procurement at MSP, which is significantly higher than current market prices. Additionally, Canada's high masur prices due to this year's tight supply have elevated import costs above current spot prices. This limits imports, which typically help regulate prices, further stabilizing the domestic market.
The price of Canadian-origin red lentils was quoted $720-725 per MT CNF Mumbai, unchanged from the previous trading session, whereas CNF Kolkata price were quoted at $730 to $735 per MT.
Market analysts predict that domestic masur prices will maintain their current levels due to a balance between supply and demand. Without significant government intervention through MSP procurement, substantial price increases are unlikely. Recent government efforts targeting hoarding are expected to further prevent major price fluctuations.
