Desi Masur Prices Rise on Lower Supply, Imported Masur Gains Favor

Mumbai, 11 Apr 2024 (Commoditiescontrol): Prices for domestic masur (desi masur) continued to rise for a second consecutive day in Indore and Delhi markets due to reduced supply. Most mandi (wholesale markets) remain closed in observance of Eid. In contrast, imported masur prices also trended upwards, bolstered by shifting demand and the superior quality of imported varieties compared to desi masur.

Meanwhile, the FOB (Free on Board) price for Canadian red lentils settled at $533 per MT. Recent sessions have seen a decline in masur prices, mainly attributed to expectations of increased cultivation acreage.

The gains in masur prices stem from lower arrivals at mandis and a sharp increase in tur prices. This was despite ample supplies of both imported and domestic masur.

However, near-term selling in pulses, including masur, may occur due to a government pledge for stricter enforcement of stock disclosure rules. Additionally, increased arrivals are anticipated once the mandis reopen next week. These factors could temporarily pause the current upward trend in overall pulse prices.
