Mumbai, 29 Jun (Commoditiescontrol): Canadian pulse exports have maintained a robust pace throughout the first nine months of the 2022/23 marketing year.
According to data from Statistics Canada, lentil exports from Canada have reached 1.713 million tonnes during the current crop year. Among the top destinations for Canadian lentils, Turkey stands at the forefront, importing just under 500,000 tonnes, closely followed by India at 383,400 tonnes. Comparatively, the lentil exports for the same period in the previous crop year amounted to 1.052 million tonnes, with Turkey and India doubling their imports from the prior year.
Peas export has experienced a remarkable surge, with a 42 per cent increase to 2.176 million tonnes. China remains the largest importer of Canadian peas, accounting for just over 1.2 million tonnes. Other prominent importers of Canadian peas include Bangladesh, the United States, and Pakistan. In contrast, Canada had exported 1.527 million tonnes of peas by this time last year.
Chickpea exports during the 2022/23 crop year-to-date have reached 188,800 tonnes. The United States has emerged as the leading destination for Canadian chickpeas, followed by Turkey, Pakistan, Syria, and Italy. These figures significantly surpass the 107,400 tonnes exported during the same period last year.
