New Delhi, May 16 (Commodities Control): Pepper prices experienced a notable uptick in both the domestic and Vietnamese markets, with Vietnam reaching a new record high.

In the domestic market, pepper prices rose by Rs 200 per quintal after trading steadily for 2-3 sessions, driven by robust demand. The increasing prices in Vietnam also contributed to the uptrend in domestic markets, despite a higher crop yield year-on-year.

Prices in Karnataka markets saw a significant increase of Rs 200-300 per quintal. In Cochin, garbled pepper remained stable at Rs 59,600 per quintal, while ungarbled pepper stood at Rs 57,600 per quintal. Pepper prices in Karnataka ranged between Rs 57,500 and Rs 59,500 per quintal.

Vietnamese pepper prices, after a period of stability, surged by another VND 2,000-3,000 per kg, reaching a new record high. Prices in major provinces are now ranging between VND 105,000 to 107,000 per kilogram. Reports indicate a substantial 70% increase year-on-year in Vietnamese pepper prices, reaching near-record levels.

Global FOB prices remained mostly stable, with the exception of Indonesia, where prices witnessed a marginal increase.
