Mumbai, 15 Apr (Commoditiescontrol): In a promising announcement on Monday, the Indian government revealed forecasts of above-average monsoon rains for 2024. This news arrives as a major boon to India's agricultural sector, which remains heavily reliant on the summer rains for successful crop production.

The monsoon season, a crucial weather pattern that typically arrives over the southern state of Kerala around June 1st and withdraws by mid-September, plays a vital role in India's agriculture. This year, rainfall totalling 106% of the long-term average is predicted, as stated by M. Ravichandran, secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, during a recent news conference.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall between 96% and 104% of a 50-year average of 87 cm (35 inches) over the four-month monsoon season is considered average or normal.
