China's Pig Population Decline Signals Potential Pork Shortages, Soy Demand Drop

Mumbai, April 18 (Commoditiescontrol) : China's shrinking pig population raises concerns about its pork supply and impact on the soy meal market. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, China's sow herd decreased to 39.92 million heads at the end of March. This marks a continued decline from the 40.42 million sows recorded at the end of February.

The decline in China's sow herd is a clear indication of a potential decrease in pork production. This, in turn, could lead to supply shortages in the coming months. Soy meal, a critical ingredient in pig feed, will likely see reduced demand as a consequence. This could put downward pressure on soy meal prices and potentially alter global soybean trade dynamics as China, the world's largest soybean importer, may reduce purchases.
