Mumbai, April 2 (CommoditiesControl): Chilli prices in major markets have shown steady trend, maintaining stability after experiencing a decline at the onset of the season. However, weakness was observed in Teja and Teja deluxe varieties at the Guntur market. Recent days have witnessed considerable volatility in arrivals, coupled with subdued export and domestic demand.
Arrivals in key markets like Guntur and Khammam were estimated at 110,000 and 25,000 bags, respectively. Guntur noted a decrease of 15,000 bags, whereas Khammam witnessed a decline of 5,000 bags. Warangal reported 50,000 bags, down by 30,000 bags compared to the previous session.
Despite rising carry-in and supply exceeding expectations, prices have already experienced a significant drop from previous highs. Market analysts anticipate prices to remain range-bound in the near future, with the summer season likely to dampen demand further.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Commerce released January's export figures, indicating a marginal 0.5% decrease with total exports reaching 35,796 MT. From April to January, exports reached 3.25 lakh tons, marking a 5.8% increase from the previous year. The decline in monthly exports is primarily attributed to reduced imports into China, which witnessed a 29.2% year-on-year decrease in exports.
