MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - Buffer stock of pulses in the country was at 10.07 lakh tonnes as of Monday, Minister of State for Food C.R. Chaudhary told Rajya Sabha in a written reply today.
"The disposal of pulses in buffer is undertaken through release to state governments, Union territories, central agencies, and their outfits and also through open market sale on first-in-first-out principle," the minister said.
The minister said, buffer stock of pulses include 950,455 tonnes of tur, 32,500 tonnes of urad, and 24,805 tonnes of moong.
He also added that around 316,000 tonnes of unmilled pulses have been released to states from the buffer stocks to distribute it through PDS, mid-day meal scheme and integrated child development services.
The government in 2015 has decided to create buffer stock of 20 lakh tonnes after prices of Tur and other pulses rose to record level amid supply-demand gap.
