NEW DELHI (Commodities control) Wheat prices gained today in Delhi, Bhopal and Bareilly as millers have ramped up purchases to cater to higher demand. According to market sources, wheat flour demand picked up as poor consumers have rushed in open after free wheat scheme PMGKAY.

Mill quality wheat increased Rs. 10 to Rs. 1930-1940 per quintal in Delhi despite arrival in local mandis. Wheat arrival increased from 8000 to Rs. 10,000 bags in Delhi mandis. But millers were aggressively buying wheat so they increased buying prices by Rs. 10 per quintal. A trader from Delhi Mr. Rajesh Jain told that millers were getting strong demand for wheat flour.

According to traders, poor consumers came back to market for wheat flour as they were no longer getting free wheat from the government. PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna (PM GKAY) was launched for poor public who were trapped into financial trouble during corona crisis. Drastic reduction was noticed in wheat flour demand after this scheme. But the scheme was ended in November last.

Wheat prices increased in Bhopal and Bareilly as demand picked up from millers. According to traders, wheat prices will increase further as government’s wheat was still costlier (Ex Ludhiana price Rs. 2080 per quintal) under OMSS. There was lower arrival in Bhopal as Today’ Amawasya was celebrated Today in Madhya Pradesh. Wheat arrival was estimated to 7000-8000 bags in Bhopal division.
