MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) –Selling pressure has pounded  pepper on Friday pulling the prices further down putting the growers in dire straits.

Upsurge in availability of imported Vietnam pepper at Rs340 and 345 a kg in the upcountry markets coupled with rise in arrivals of new pepper has been attributed to the continued fall in the prices in recent days.

On the terminal market 26 tonnes of pepper arrived from Idukki district and were traded at Rs350 - Rs355 a kg.

Enquiry from exporters were floating at Rs350 a kg, market sources said.

Spot prices fell further by Rs300 a quintal to close at Rs34800(ungarbled) and Rs36800(garbled) a quintal.

Indian export prices were at $5450 a tonne c & f for Europe and $ 5700 a tonne c&f USA.
