MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - The country has imported 2 lakh tonnes of tur so far during the current financial year 2017-18, which is the restricted limit set by the government earlier last week, and thus requirement of issuing detailed procedure for import of "Tur Dal" no longer exits and no authorization in terms para 2.08 of the Foreign Trade Policy (2015-2020) will  be issued, said Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in a circular on Friday.

The circular noted "However import (as per para 2.17 and 9.11 of handbook of procedure (2015-2020) of pigeon peas/Tur dal of which irrevocable Letter of Credit (LoC) have been opened prior August 5, 2017, and subsequently registered with juridictional regional authorities (RA,s), as per provision of Para 1.05 of Foreign Trade Policy (2015-2020) are permitted.

The government earlier on August 5, 2017 put imports of pigeon peas/toor dal under the restricted category and fixed a quota for its inbound shipments.

"Import shall be subject to an annual (fiscal year) quota of 2 lakh tonne," the Directorate General of Foreign Trade said in a notification on Saturday, August 5, 2017.

It, however, said that this restriction will not apply to government's import commitments under any bilateral / regional agreement.
