JAIPUR (Commoditiescontrol) - Barley production is expected to drop in Canada during year 2014-15, as per a latest report on crop year 2014-15 by the Agriculture and Agri Food Canada (AAFC). According to the report, barley production may fall to 71.19 lakh tonnes. Last year, the production was 102.37 lakh tonnes. But the production may increase again to 78.75 lakh tonnes the next year 2015-16.
Also, barley stock may fall this year compared to last year. Canada is the largest barley producing country in the world. According to the report, carry-over stock may drop to 6.50 lakh tonnes. In 2013-14, stock was 19.24 lakh tonnes. AAFC has estimated that barley stock may be at 5 lakh tonnes in 2015-16.
The report says that barley export may also be hit due to production fall in Canada. The export is expected to 23.50 lakh tonnes in 2014-15 which was 23.90 lakh tonnes in 2013-14. The export may fall further to 21.50 lakh tonnes in the next year. 2015-16.
AAFC report stated that the average price may hover between $185-215 per tonne. The average price was $188 per tonne in 2013-14. The report further adds that in 2015-16, barley’s average price may be at between $195-225 per tonne.
