MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) – Spun yarn prices in Asian markets were stable to down, compared to a week ago, in most cases but were up in viscose segment, particularly in China and India. However, polyester yarn prices fell in China but gained in Pakistan in the week ended 25 February. Nevertheless, the stronger US$ pegged prices in US$ terms down.

Cotton yarn prices flat across markets
Cotton yarn markets in China extended the stable move, seeing prices largely unchanged and sales of 21s and 32s smooth with decent demand. However, spinning mills was taking their time to offload goods citing healthy inventory levels. In Shengze, 21s cotton yarn prices remained unchanged at US$3.38-3.44 a kg and 32s at US$3.35-3.41 a kg, both down US cent 1 due to weak currency.

In India, cotton yarn prices remained unmoved on relatively firm cotton prices while they were slightly down on export markets. 30s combed for knitting was traded at INR212 a kg or US$3.17 a kg in Ludhiana. In Pakistan, cotton yarn prices were unchanged in the week, reflecting a lack of demand from the downward processors. Sluggish business of cotton yarn and fabrics was causing an uncertainty in the market, besides, the falling exports of textile goods has started taking toll over the entire textile industry. Prices could start sliding in coming days, in line with the saturation in cotton prices. 10s carded at PakRs94.50 per pound (US$2.00 a kg) and 30s carded at PakRs148 per pound (US$3.14 a kg).

Polyester yarn prices ease in China, inch up in Pakistan
Polyester spun yarn offers moved down in China on back of poor sales and weakening in line with the fall in PSF prices during the week. In Shengze, 32s polyester yarn moved down US cents 2 to US$1.91-1.92 a kg while in Qiangqing, 32s weaving yarn was offered at US$1.89-1.91 a kg, down US cents 3 on the week.

In Pakistan, rise in PSF prices continued but they still below cotton prices. Thus, spun polyester yarn price rose PakRe1 a kg on the Karachi market. 30s spun was traded at PakRs123 per pound (US$2.61 a kg) while 60s was up at PakRs137 per pound (US$2.91 a kg), both up US cents 3. Indian polyester yarn prices generally rolled over although export price surged in January with shipment rising close to 4 million kgs. 30 knit polyester prices were at INR134 a kg (US$2.00 a kg) in Ludhiana market.

Viscose yarn up in China and India
Viscose yarn prices were stable to up in Asian markets this week. In China, offers for ring‐spun 30s yarn, siro‐spun 40s yarn mainly inched up. However, fresh orders were just moderate as prices for siro-spun yarn while demand for Fujian-origin 40s yarn was lusterless. Offers for ring‐spun 30s weaving yarn in Xiaoshan were hiked US cents 2 to US$3.14 kg, while compact siro‐spun 40s yarn in Jiangsu was flat at US$3.61 a kg.

In India, viscose yarn prices moved up as export demand was recovering. In January, 2.6 million kgs of viscose yarn was exported at an average price of US$3.03 a kg. In Ludhiana, 30s viscose spun knitting yarn prices were up INR1 at INR182 a kg or US$2.72 a kg, up US cent 1. In Pakistan, viscose yarn prices rolled over on firm but unchanged VSF prices. In Karachi, 35s was at PakRs145 per pound (US$3.08 a kg) while 40s were at PakRs168 a pound (US$3.56 a kg).

PC yarn prices raised in Pakistan
Blended yarn prices moved in line with fibre prices with no room for any fall. In China, PC and PV yarn prices rolled over despite PSF sobering and sluggish cotton markets. However, rising VSF price supported PV yarn markets. In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices were flat at US$2.57 a kg while 45s PC combed yarn prices were at US$3.38 a kg.

In Pakistan, PC yarns prices were raised during the week on rising polyester and firm cotton prices, while PV yarns remained unchanged. PC yarn prices rose further PakRs2 or US cents 4 with 20s PC (52/48) carded yarn at PakRs111 per pound (US$2.35 a kg) on the Faisalabad market while 30s gained at PakRs128 per pound (US$2.71 a kg). PV 30s yarn prices rolled over at PakRs129 per pound (US$2.74 a kg).

In India, cotton prices were seen sobering and no change in PSF and VSF prices led to stable blended yarn prices. PV and PC yarn shipments were subdued in January although FOB prices were up during the month. 30s (65/35) PV warp yarns prices remained unchanged at INR151 a kg (US$2.26 a kg) while PC 30s (52/48) prices were flat at INR177 a kg (US$2.64 a kg) in Ludhiana.
