Vietnam Cotton Imports From India Slips 19% In June M/M

MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) – Vietnam cotton imports from India during June month dropped over 19 percent, while yarn imports plunged nearly 13 percent due to high prices, according to trade ministry.

The country June cotton imports stood lower at 6,206 metric tonnes versus 7,679 metric tonnes a month ago, while January to June totaled at 83,267 metric tonnes.

Similarly yarn imports also fell in line with cotton as June imports was estimated at 2,127 metric tonnes compared with 2,442 metric tonnes in May. Vietnam January to June imports totaled at 14,944 metric tonnes.

Vietnam, the world's fifth largest garment exporter. Most of the imported cotton will come from the United States, which has been Vietnam's top supplier of the raw material, followed by India, Brazil and Australia.

Vietnam's exports of textiles and garments, the country's second-biggest cash earner after smart phones, are projected to jump 36 percent this year to $31 billion, according to the trade ministry.

Vietnam total cotton import from various destinations dropped 14 percent at 75,913 metric tonnes as against 88,387 metric tonnes previous month. January to May cotton import stood at 520,482 metric tonnes.

The country’s yarn imports during June was tad down at 75,193 metric tonnes versus 75,461 metric tonnes a month earlier, while January to May total yarn import stood at 412,647 metric tonnes.
