MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) – India cotton consumption in May increased from last month, while cotton stock reduced, according to recent data released by Textile commissioner office.
Cotton yarn production in the month of May was increased from a month ago, while cotton stock was projected rise from April.
India cotton consumption in May month was estimated at 25.17 lakh bales (170kg each) from 24.72 in April, but up from 25.62 lakh bales from a year ago.
India cotton consumption increased mainly because of good demand in the yarn market spicily open ended counts. as well good export demand received in Pakistan, vaitnam & china.
The data revealed that cotton consumption from October 2015 to May 2016 dropped 2% at 198.87 lakh bales compared with 202.83 lakh bales corresponding period last year.
Cotton stocks in the country in May month was projected lower at 52.26 lakh bales versus 55.63 lakh bales a month ago, while increased from 49.86 lakh bales last year.
Similar trend was witnessed on consumption side in cotton yarn during May which Increased 3.7 percent at 347.82 million kg against 335.42 million kg last month. Cotton consumption however during April 2016 to May 2016 reduced 2.37 percent at 683.24 million kg from 699.46 million kg same period a year ago.
Cotton yarn stocks in May month was estimated at 129.38 million kg, up from 128.74 million kg from a month ago, while it sharply down (15.5 percentage) from 153.07 last year.
