MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - Pakistan raw cotton imports during May month dropped 31.63 percent compared with a month ago, while rose over 92.27 percent same period a year ago, according to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The drop in cotton import was mainly due to higher prices in the neighboring country India. India was the major supplier of cotton to Pakistan during the current season 2015-16.
Further Pakistan's cotton import is likely to remain on the lower side since exports of yarn and textile is slow followed by new crop supply.
The latest data revealed by PBS showed that fourth largest producer of cotton imported 35,868 metric in May 2016, while it was 52,464 metric tonnes a month ago.
Pakistan imported around 18,655 metric tonnes of cotton during April 2015.
