Mumbai(Commodities Control) – China cotton yarn import in May month rose 3.9 percent to 1,71,000 tonnes versus previous month, according to China Customs.
The import is however down 7.31 percent from same period a year ago.
Cumulative cotton yarn import for the season reached 1.5414 million tonnes, down 9.75 percent. Export totaled 232,700 tonnes, down 13.63 percent.
January through May, cumulative cotton yarn import totaled 803,500 tonnes, down 18.88 percent. Export totaled 137,100 tonnes, down 9.91 percent.
Meanwhile, China customs on Tuesday revealed that cotton import totaled 78,200 tonnes in May, up 8,500 tonnes or 12.14 percent from April and down 84,700 tonnes or 51.98 percent from last year.
China yarn import in the coming months is likely to drop as local mills are getting cotton at lower rates from state reserve auction as compared to imported cotton which enables them to offer yarn at competitive rates in domestic markets and hence may result in lower import of cotton yarn.
