MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in its weekly crop progress report for the week ended 20th September, 2015, stated that nearly 57 percent of U.S cotton crop reached bolls opening stage, which was almost similar to last year and below five year average of 61 percent.
The report showed that 12 percent of the crop is very poor/poor compared to 13 percent a week ago.
About 52 percent of the crop is rated good/excellent, same as 52 percent a week ago period, the report showed.
According to the report, 7 percent crop reached harvesting stage, which is below last year’s level of 8 percent and five year average of 9 percent.
In Texas, around 41 percent of crop was seen in good to excellent condition during the week. On the whole, crop has reached harvesting stage in many regions of the state, though in few areas the harvesting was slowed down due to scattered rains. Dryland cotton needed rain, but crop in irrigated areas are in good shape. Reports suggest that cotton ginning has started in south Texas.
