MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - India’s exports of cotton to the world’s leading consumer, China in July, 2015 saw a slump of 89.76 percent to 2,378 tons compared to the corresponding period last year, as per official customs data. During the first seven months of the current fiscal (January-July), it exported around 177,222 tons cotton to China, down 75.21 percent compared to last year.
Similarly, exports from the U.S. to China in July were recorded at 35,885 tons, down 15.33 percent from the same month last year, while between January-July period, U.S. cotton imports in China rose 8.39 percent on year at 472,419 tons.
China’s cotton imports from Brazil in July also showed a slump of 95.43 percent to 781 tons. But, during the first seven months between Jan-Jul, China imported around 74,972 tons of cotton from Brazil, up 134.22 percent on year.
China’s cotton imports in the month of July, 2015 recorded a slump of 62.28 percent to 105,659 tons compared to same month last year, while it imported 1,039,401 tons of cotton between Jan-Jul, down 37.89 percent compared to last year same period, showed official customs data.
In the month, China's total cotton imports were at 161,775 tons, down 25.85 percent than same month last year. During Jan-Jun period, the country’s cotton imports posted a drop of 32.99 percent at 933,779 tons compared to a year ago, the customs data showed.
