NEW DELHI (Commoditiescontrol)- Production of guarseed in Rajasthan, the top producer of the commodity, estimated at 15.44 lakh tonnes in 2017-18 which is higher by 1.39 lakh tonnes or 10 percent than the previous year (2016-17) production of 14.04 lakh tonnes, as per the second advance estimates released by the state government.
However, the sowing area under guarseed witnessed decline in 2017-18 but estimates of higher crop yield- 450 kg per hectare from 398 kg per hectare - in key growing regions, mainly led to the rise in production.
In 2017-18, guarseed total acreage stood at 34.32 lakh hectares compared to 35.30 lakh hectares in 2016-17. The crop year for guarseed runs from July to June. Rajasthan, Haryana and parts of Gujarat are the major guar producers in the country.
Contrary to the state government's estimate, trading sources have earlier pegged overall guarseed production at 7 lakh tonnes in 2017-18, which is half of what the country had produced in 2016-17.
Castor seed output in the state is seen rising 39.2% on year to 265,357 tonnes in 2017-18 (Jul-Jun) due to a rise in yield and acreage.
Taramira output in the state during the season is seen declining 68% on year to 34,777 tonnes. Production of wheat, another major crop in the state, is seen falling 13% on year to 10.8 million tonnes.
Production of mustard seed in the state is seen falling 16% on year to 3.2 million tonnes, while soybean output is seen at 1.04 million tonnes, down from 1.3 million tonnes in 2016-17.

Maize production in Rajasthan is seen at 1.56 million tonnes compared with 1.37 million tonnes the previous year. Chana crop is seen rising 12.6% on year to 1.58 million tonnes this year, according to the data.
