Open interest in copper totaled to 203598 contracts of 25000 pounds each. 3624 contracts were added to net open interest as compared to reported positions on 19 January 2016.
Hedgers added to both long and short positions. 289 contracts were added to long positions while 5634 contracts were added to short positions. Hedgers were net short in the market, however, the gap between total longs and shorts were only 1359 contracts.
Swap Dealers increased their long and spreading positions and reduced their short positions. 383 contracts were added to long positions while 835 were added to spreading positions. Short positions were reduced by 835 contracts.
Money managers were net short in copper on Tuesday. However, they reduced their short positions by 7240 contracts. They also added to long positions by 2843 contracts and spreading positions were increased by 3435 contracts.
Other reportable positions reduced both long and short positions. Long positions were reduced by 6609 contracts while short positions were reduced by 3049 contracts.
29.2 percent of total open interest was held in long positions among eight or less large traders while long positions among them totaled to 22.3 percent.
Managed money was net short in the market.
