MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) –The total kharif area sown in Andhra Pradesh as on September 9, 2015 declined at 30.79 lakh hectares, down from 33.22 lakh hectares same period last year, according to State Agriculture Department.
Paddy, Groundnut and Cotton is primarily cultivated in the state. Paddy acreage in the state estimated at 11.81 lakh hectares versus 12.63 lakh hectares. Groundnut acreage also fell to 6.23 lakh hectares as against 7.48 lakh hectares, while cotton area dropped to 5.75 lakh hectares compared with 7.10 lakh hectares.
Rainfall Report In The State
During the period from 1st June to 9th September 2015, Normal rainfall recorded in North Coastal districts (4%), in South-Coastal (-2%) and Rayalseema region (-19%). The overall State average rainfall received from 1st June to 9th September 2015 is 420.7 mm as against the Normal of 446.2 mm which is Normal by (-6%).
Agricultural Operations
Crops like Jowar, Bajra, and Maize are in vegetative to flowering stage. Red gram, Green gram, Black gram are in vegetative to flowering and pod formation Stage. Sunflower, Cotton is in vegetative to flowering to boll formation stage. Sugarcane crop is in vegetative to Grand growth stage Groundnut crop is in pod formation to pod development stage. The Sesamum crop is flowering to harvesting stage. Paddy transplantations are in progress in Coastal Districts.
Crop Condition
In Srikakulam district, withering and drying conditions observed in some patches of Paddy nurseries. Condition of rainfed crops like Maize, Cotton, Groundnut, and Pulses is satisfactory as on date. In Vizianagaram district due to uneven distribution of rainfall 4 mandals were fall under deficit rainfall situation and as the Paddy being predominant crop, the remaining paddy area is also being expected to be covered as the paddy nurseries are available for such an extent and as the paddy nurseries are over aged the yields may reduce 25% to 30% due to late transplanting. Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur districts, the crop condition of the rainfed crops is satisfactory.
In Prakasam district, Cotton and Sesamum are showing still withering symptoms in some pockets whereas other rainfed crops recovered from withering condition due to recent rainfall. In Nellore district, 263.45 ha. of different crops (Paddy-191.85 ha., Bajra-70 ha, Groundnut - 1.60ha) were dried up due to lack of sufficient rainfall and depleted Groundwater.
In Anantapuram, after receipt of recent rainfall in August and September months, all crops revived vegetative in the mandals where rainfall received and however, Groundnut crop sown in the month of June and first fortnight of July was recovered vegetative with stunted growth and not noticed effective flowering/peg formation. In Chittoor district, Groundnut crop recovered from withering situation due to recent rainfall and other Agricultural crops conditions are also satisfactory.
In Kadapa district, due to recent rainfall received on 5.9.2015 and 7.9.2015, the Cotton and Groundnut crops sown under rainfed were recovered from withering condition. In Kurnool district, the Cotton crop is experiencing moisture stress and is in withering stage due to prolonged dry spell prevailing in the district and in some areas due to insufficient rainfall, stunted growth observed in Red Gram crop.
Groundnut crop is in withering stage in some mandals where sufficient rainfall is not received and further sowings are temporarily stopped due to prevailed dry spell situations. Maize crop sown under irrigated conditions is satisfactory whereas under rainfed condition is in withering stage due to moisture stress in some pockets.
