India Food grains Production rises 3.95 Percent To 2966.5 Lakh Tons in 2019-20

NEW DELHI (Commodities control) India’s total food grains production increased 3.95 percent to 2966.5 lakh tons during crop year 2019-20 (July-June). Union Ministry of Agriculture has released fourth and final advance estimate of recently concluded crop year 2019-20. Previous season’s final production estimate delayed due to Covid-19. AS per latest data, coarse cereals production has witnessed impressive jump of 10.33 percent and it’s production reached to 474.8 lakh tons.



According to the ministry, rice production rose 1.71 percent and it reached at 1184.3 lakh tons from 1164.8 lakh tons of 2018-19. Wheat production increased 3.76 percent and total production reached at 1075.9 lakh tons. Total wheat production was 1036 lakh tons during 2018-19. Total food grains production reached at 2966.5 lakh tons from 2852.1 lakh tons of last season. It includes pulses production. Total food grain production inched up as compare to third advance estimate of 2956.7 lakh tons which was released in mid of May 2020.



Country’s pulses production reached to 231.5 lakh tons from 220.8 lakh tons of last year. Pulses production increased 5 percent. Tur production was 38.3 lakh tons during Kharif season of 2019-20. While, 33.2 lakh Tur produced in 2018-19. Chana production of Rabi season rose to 113.5 lakh tons from 99.4 lakh tons of last year. Moong production remained stable at 24.6 lakh tons.



According to latest data, total oilseed production increased 6.03 percent to 334.23 lakh tons from 315.22 lakh tons of last season. Groundnut production has recorded impressive growth. The production increased to 100.96 lakh tons from 67.27 lakh tons during both seasons. However, Soyabean production decreased from 132.68 lakh tons to 112.15 lakh tons in recently concluded crop year. Rapeseed and Mustard production also decline from 92.56 lakh tons to 91.16 lakh tons.



Sugarcane production also decreased 12.26 percent to 3557 lakh tons from 4054.16 lakh tons of 2018-19. But cotton production has registered growth of 26.43 percent. The production increased from 280.42 lakh bales (each bales 170 kg.) to 354.91 lakh bales.
