India maintains increase in kharif acreage, sown area reaches to 1063 lakh ha.

NEW DELHI (Commodities control) India succeeded to maintain increasing trend in sowing area of kharif season’s crops. According to latest report released on Friday by Ministry of Agriculture, total sowing area reached at 1062.93 lakh hectare which is 8.56 percent higher than corresponding period’s acreage of last kharif season. The country is likely to have bumper production of rice as sowing area increased 11.71 percent to 378.32 lakh hectare.


Rice area 11.71 percent up

According to ministry’s report, rice was sown in 338.65 lakh ha in same period of last year. Thus total area increased by 39.67 lakh ha. Average area of rice is 397.29 lakh ha. The total area of kharif crop was 979.15 lakh ha during the same period of last year. Thus total area increased 83.79 lakh ha. Out of total increased areas around 50 percent went to rice acreage. Total average area of kharif season is 1066.44 lakh ha.
Higher area of rice is reported from the States of Telangana (10.54 lakh ha), Bihar (5.99 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (5.95 lakh ha), Jharkhand (5.86 lakh ha), West Bengal (4.48 lakh ha), Odisha (3.16 lakh ha), Karnataka (2.18 lakh ha), Maharashtra (1.21 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (1.16 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (1.01 lakh ha), Rajasthan (0.26 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.26 lakh ha), Haryana (0.25 lakh ha), Manipur (0.22 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.12 lakh ha), Gujarat (0.10 lakh ha), Assam (0.08 lakh ha), J&K (0.01 lakh ha) and Sikkim (0.01 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Punjab (1.78 lakh ha), Tripura (1.23 lakh ha), Nagaland (0.15 lakh ha), Kerala (0.01 lakh ha) and Himachal Pradesh (0.01 lakh ha).


Pulses

About 132.56 lakh ha area coverage under pulses has been reported compared to last year (124.15 lakh ha). Thus 8.41 lakh ha more area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Karnataka (3.52 lakh ha), Maharashtra (2.16 lakh ha), Telangana (1.42 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (1.07 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.60 lakh ha), Gujarat (0.58 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (0.34 lakh ha), Odisha (0.26 lakh ha), Haryana (0.22 lakh ha), Bihar (0.19 lakh ha), Jharkhand (0.08 lakh ha), Punjab (0.04 lakh ha), Uttarakhand (0.01 lakh ha) and Assam (0.01 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Rajasthan (1.49 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (0.31 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.17 lakh ha), Nagaland (0.07 lakh ha), Manipur (0.03 lakh ha), Sikkim (0.01 lakh ha), J&K (0.01 lakh ha) and Tripura (0.01 lakh ha

Coarse cereals

About 174.06 lakh ha area coverage under coarse cereals has been reported compared to last year (166.80 lakh ha). Thus 7.26 lakh ha more area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Karnataka (5.13 lakh ha), Rajasthan (1.83 lakh ha), Punjab (0.85 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (0.62 lakh ha), Jharkhand (0.54 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.36 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.34 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (0.27 lakh ha), Odisha (0.16 lakh ha), Maharashtra (0.11 lakh ha), J&K (0.10 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.08 lakh ha), Bihar (0.03 lakh ha) and Uttarakhand (0.01 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Telangana (2.70 lakh ha), Haryana (0.17 lakh ha), Gujarat (0.07 lakh ha), West Bengal (0.02 lakh ha), Arunachal Pradesh (0.01 lakh ha) and Assam (0.01 lakh ha).

Oilseeds


About 191.14 lakh ha area coverage under oilseeds has been reported compared to last year (167.53 lakh ha). Thus 23.61 lakh ha more area has been covered last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Gujarat (6.64 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (4.79 lakh ha), Maharashtra (3.34 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (3.14 lakh ha), Karnataka (2.87 lakh ha), Rajasthan (2.28 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (0.81 lakh ha), Odisha (0.12 lakh ha), Chhattisgarah (0.08 lakh ha), Punjab (0.03 lakh ha), Haryana (0.03 lakh ha), Jharkhand (0.01 lakh ha) and West Bengal (0.01 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Telangana (0.24 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.07 lakh ha), Bihar (0.07 lakh ha) and J&K (0.01 lakh ha).


Sugarcane


About 52.19 lakh ha area coverage under sugarcane has been reported compared to last year (51.62 lakh ha). Thus 0.57 lakh ha more area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Maharashtra (1.51 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.11 lakh ha), Karnataka (0.07 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.01 lakh ha) and Punjab (0.01 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Tamil Nadu (0.35 lakh ha), Bihar (0.34 lakh ha), Haryana (0.14 lakh ha), Gujarat (0.10 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.06 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (0.06 lakh ha), Odisha (0.04 lakh ha), Telangana (0.03 lakh ha), West Bengal (0.02 lakh ha) and Uttarakhand (0.02 lakh ha).


Jute & Mesta


About 6.97 lakh ha area coverage under Jute & Mesta has been reported compared to last year (6.86 lakh ha). Thus 0.12 lakh ha more area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the State of West Bengal (0.17 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Bihar (0.04 lakh ha), Meghalaya (0.02 lakh ha), Assam (0.01 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.01 lakh ha) and Odisha (0.01 lakh ha).


Cotton


About 127.69 lakh ha area coverage under cotton has been reported compared to last year (123.54 lakh ha). Thus 4.15 lakh ha more area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Telangana (6.11 lakh ha), Karnataka (1.68 lakh ha), Punjab (0.99 lakh ha), Haryana (0.36 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (0.34 lakh ha), Rajasthan (0.28 lakh ha) and Tamil Nadu (0.02 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the State of Gujarat (3.55 lakh ha), Maharashtra (1.79 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.21 lakh ha) and Odisha (0.02 lakh ha).
