MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - Groundnut production in Gujarat during Kharif 2017-18 is expected to rise 19.20% to 32.65 lakh tonnes against 27.39 lakh tonnes (3rd Adv Est) a year ago, according to Gujarat agriculture department.
The state agriculture has not released final (fourth advance estmates) for 2016-17 due to some technical issue, confirmed an official with state agriculture department in telephonic conversation.
Gujarat is the largest Groundnut producer in the country.
Acreage under Groundnut fell nearly 1 percent during 2017-18 Kharif season, but better yield of 2,009 kg/hactares against 1,669 offset acreage losses, said the agriculture department.
Meanwhile another oilseed crop, Castor seed output was estimated 11.47% lower to 11.11 lakh tonnes from 12.55 lakh tonnes previous year weighed by lower sowing area and yield.
Cotton crop was estimated down 8.57% to 73.60 lakh bales versus 80.50 lakh bales last year due to reduced yield, may be due to heavy flood and rainfall in August month.
