Delhi (Commoditiescontrol) - Recent spell of rain has accelerated kharif crops sowing progress but still there are some parts of country that have received deficient or below normal rainfall. Improved weather condition is being reported in key oilseed growing states and better sowing is expected. However, one of the premier research Institute have focused on sunflower and castor seed sowing and advised farmers to choose these crops in lieu of soybean, black gram and green gram.
Sunflower/castor sowing may avoid risk of crop failure : following which better crop condition is expected to result in good yield of oilseed this year. However, Indian Institute of Oilseed Research (IIOR), a research body under the aegis of Indian Council of Agriculture Research has suggested farmers, particularly in central parts of Maharashtra where deficient rain is being reported, to grow sunflower and castor instead of soybean, green gram and black gram so that risk of crop failure could be avoided.
Focus to augment productivity: IIOR, headquartered in Hyderabad, carries out basic and strategic research to augment the productivity of castor, sunflower, safflower, sesame, niger and linseed.
