MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - Australia Bureau of Agricultural Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) cut Chana production estimates for 2017-18 due to poor yield amid adverse weather conditions during growth stages.
Abares in February release has revised 2017-18 chana crop lower at 10.28 lakh tonnes compared with 12.65 lakh tonnes estimated in December month, and sharply down 49% from 20.04 lakh tonnes in 2016-17.
Similarly, it has also lowered its estimates for Masoor crop (Lentil) at 4.65 lakh tonnes versus 4.79 lakh tonnes pegged in previous release. The agri department has also revised its lentil production forecast for 2016-17 at 6.80 lakh tonnes against 8.30 lakh tonnes projected in December report.
