MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - Maharashtra agriculture department in second advance estimate cuts Tur and cotton production sharply due to poor monsoon and adverse weather conditions during growth stages.
The state has lowered its estimate of cotton production in 2017-18 to 60 lakh bales (170kg each) from 95 lakh bales projected in the first advanced estimate due to a sharp fall in yields amid pink bollworm attack.
Maharashtra witnessed a dry spell from June end to early August that hit kharif crops in the growth stage.
