MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) – The pulses import declined by 63.81 percent to 1.43 lakh tonne (LT) in December 2017 as compared to previous month at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), Mumbai.

The fall in imports is mainly attributed to the government announcement related to a 30% tariff on the imports of Masoor (lentils) on 21 December 2017 and raising the import tariff on Matar (field peas) from zero to fifty per cent on the 8 November 2017.

Moreover, on August 21, 2017 the government had imposed import quota limits of 3 lakh MT combined on Moong/Urad.
