Maharashtra 2017-18 Tur Crop Likely Down 43.3% At 11.5 Lakh Tonne

MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - Tur output in Maharashtra for 2017-18 is expected to drop 43.3% on year to 11.5 lakh tonnes due to lower acreage and yield, according to the first advance estimate data made available by official of state agriculture department.

The state had earlier in 2016-17 produced record 20.4 lakh tonnes of Tur amid sharp increase in acreage and yield.

The drop in acreage this kharif season mainly due to prices below MSP level of Rs 5,450/100kg (including Rs 200 bonus).

Production of food grain in the state is seen falling 31.7% on year to 73 lakh tonnes. Output of soybean is pegged at 36 lakh tonne, down 22.7% on year.

Cotton production is likely at 95 lakh bales (170kg each), compared with 106 lakh bales last year.
