NEW DELHI (Commoditiescontrol) – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (UDSA) has raised global supplies of wheat for marketing year 2017-18 by over five million tonnes to more than 1001 million tonnes.
The USDA has projected global wheat output at 743.18 million tonnes for 2017-18 in its latest monthly report published on Thursday against last month’s forecast at 737.83 million tonnes, up 5.35 million tonnes. Total supply has been estimated at 1001.7 million tonnes against last month’s projection of 995.88 million tonnes. The consumption demand also changed slightly from 735.28 million tonnes to 737.05 million tonnes. The global ending stocks of wheat rose from 260.6 million tonnes to 264.69 million tonnes.
The global wheat supplies have been increased significantly, primarily on an 8.6-million-tonne production increase in the Former Soviet Union (FSU). Russian production is seen a record 77.5 million tonnes, outstripping last year’s record by 5.0 million. Winter wheat yields are forecast higher for both Russia and Ukraine, based mainly on harvest results to date.
Additionally, spring wheat conditions have remained very favorable for both Russia and Kazakhstan, resulting in higher production forecasts. Canadian wheat production is reduced 1.9 million tonnes to 26.5 million due to severe drought conditions in major production areas of the Prairie Provinces.
The USDA has also reduced wheat production in the U.S. in its latest report from 47.89 million tonnes to 47.33 million tonnes due to drought conditions seen in the main wheat growing belts.
