MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - Australia Chana (Chickpea) and Masur (Lentil) crop production for 2017-18 forecast lower despite rise in acreage amid expectations of fall in average yield.
Chickpea production in Australia during 2017-18 is likely to decline 24% at 14.16 lakh hectares against 18.54 lakh tonnes a year ago.
The planted area is expected to rise from the large area planted in 2016–17 in response to high expected returns from chickpeas relative to cereal crops. This is despite concerns about the risk of disease posed by not strictly following recommended crop rotations.
