Synthetic Spun Yarn Shipment Up 11% in January Led By Polyester

MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) – Export of spun yarns made of 100% man-made fibre was at 7.2 million kg in January 2017, comprising 3.90 million kg of polyester yarn, 2.59 million kg of viscose yarn and 0.70 million kg of acrylic yarn. They together were worth US$17.8 million or Rs120 crore.

Polyester spun yarn exports were up 29.7 per cent in value and were exported to 39 countries during January aggregating US$8.5 million or Rs 57 crore with unit price realization averaging US$2.19 a kg. A total of 3.90 million kg was exported, of which, 22.2 per cent was shipped by Turkey alone. Eleven new markets were found for polyester yarn this January, of which, Canada, Nigeria, Myanmar and Tunisia were the major ones.

Viscose yarn exports value rose 13.4 per cent during the month valued at US$7.85 million or INR52.8 crore and shipment at 2.59 million kg. This implied average unit price realization of US$3.03 per kg. They were exported to 22 countries with Belgium at the top worth US$2.44 million. It was followed by Brazil with imports worth US$0.99 million. Both these markets accounted for 43 per cent of all viscose yarn ex-ported in January. Morocco, Poland, Belgium, Egypt and Italy were the fastest growing markets for viscose yarns while Brazil, Portugal, Guatemala, South Africa and Ukraine were the new major markets. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkmenistan did not import any viscose yarns during the month.

Acrylic yarn exports plunged 57 per cent in January as unit price realization declined US cents 86 a kg year on year. In January, acrylic yarns were exported to 19 countries, topped with Ethiopia, Mexico and Kenya.
