MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) –
PSF
Polyester staple fibre markets were calm in Asia on strong holiday atmosphere with the Spring Festival beginning this week. In China, major PSF producers kept offers steady to down, and discussions for firm deals were mostly unchanged. In Fujian, PSF prices were range bound while in in Shandong and Hebei, market was under adjustment as enquiring sentiment was mute. Offers for 1.4D direct-melt-spun PSF in Jiangsu and Zhejiang were at US$1.19-1.21 a kg and the same in Fujian and Shandong were at US$1.21-1.22 a kg.

In India, PSF prices rolled over after they were hiked mid-December as cotton prices have started sobering. 1.2D PSF producers’ prices rolled over at INR85.25 a kg or US$1.25 a kg.

In Pakistan, PSF prices have been stable for the past 3 weeks at at PakRs124-126 a kg (US$1.18-1.20 a kg) since they were last increased in December.

VSF
Viscose staple fibre markets saw trading activity generally coming to an end in China due to week long Lunar New Year holidays. Some producers still made tentative price hikes during the last weekend. Goods delivery was mostly suspended. 1.5D VSF was traded at 16.65 Yuan a kg (US$2.42 a kg, up US cent 1 on the week) while 1.2D was stable at 16.85 Yuan a kg (US$2.45 a kg).

In India, VSF prices continued to trend stable at INR144-151 kg (US$2.11-2.22 a kg) seeing downstream spun yarn markets recovering slowly from the demonetization disruption.

In Pakistan, rising cotton prices were supporting viscose markets with yarn export also picking up steadily. 1.5D VSF prices remained unchanged at PakRs240-243 a kg or US$2.29-2.32 a kg in Karachi market.

ASF
Acrylic staple fiber markets and prices were stable in Asia this week. In China, trading atmosphere was lackluster due to Lunar New Year holidays and offers for cotton-type staple fiber and medium-length staple fiber were pegged at a roll over. Prices of medium-length fiber and cotton-type staple at US$1.88-2.03 a kg.

In India, ASF prices rolled while they remained unchanged in Pakistan on the week. Overall demand was lusterless. Producers will continue to suffer some margin losses given the rise in acrylonitrile cost this week. ASF offers were unchanged at INR123-126 (US$1.85-1.87 a kg).

Taiwan origin 3D bright ASF tow offers remained unchanged at US$1.75-1.78 a kg.

In Pakistan, 1.2D ASF prices rolled over at PakRs.197 a kg (US$1.88 a kg).
