MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - India tur (pigeon pea) imports during the month of July 2016 rose 17.40 percent at 32,489.40 metric tonnes against 27,674.39 metric tonnes same period a year ago, according to latest commerce ministry data.
The country has imported around 150,670.09 metric tonnes of tur during the current financial year (FY) 2016-17 (Apr-Jul), down 2.22 percent from 154,096.76 metric tonnes last year.
India has imported 521,209.08 metric tonnes of tur in FY 2015-16.
Myanmar was largest supplier of tur in July month with 20,455.13 metric tonnes against 21,478.94 metric tonnes last year. Apr-Jul import stood at 122,426.01 metric tonnes versus 91,937.67 metric tonnes previous year.
Sudan, Uganda and Nigeria was the major exporters of tur to India in July month. India imports tur in small quantity from Benin, Kenya and Malavi.
With chart given below it is clearly observed that India import of tur declining gradually month-on-month due to expectations of bumper production in the country.
India government in first advance estimates projected 2016-17 tur production at 42.9 lakh tonnes against 24.6 lakh tonnes a year ago.
