Madhya Pradesh 2015-16 Tur Production May Rise Over 2%

MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - Madhya Pradesh is the third major tur (Red gram) producing state in India followed by Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, Uttar Pradesh (UP), Gujarat and Jharkhand.

Madhya Pradesh is performing very well in agriculture sector including tur production. To further improve tur production in the state, government of Madhya Pradesh has taken up various initiatives like soil testing method followed by nutrient management, organic farming, water management, seed treatment and introduction of short duration crop varieties at farm level.

As a result of these healthy initiatives, tur production in the state is expected to increase during 2015-16.

The following table 1 shows estimated production of tur for the season of 2015-16.

The production estimation has been made to get an idea about the future situation of tur market, basically the supply side. The estimation has been made on the basis of the feedback received from traders in various districts in the state and Kisan Vikas Kendra (KVK) scientists.

From the table, the below given conclusions can be made over tur crop outlook in Madhya Pradesh for the ongoing season of 2015-16:

1) The estimated Tur production for the year 2015-16 is expected to increase by 2.36% in the state.

2) All the major Tur growing districts of Madhya Pradesh are showing an increasing pattern in terms of estimated Tur production for the year 2015-16. Where, the estimated Tur production in the districts of Narsinghpur, Raisen, Betul, Rewa, Chindwara, Satna and Seoni will increase by 17.66%, 8.93%, 10.75%, 8.61 %, 3.73 %, 7.5 % and 14.25 % respectively as compared to the previous year 2014-15.

The major reason of this increase in estimated production of tur in the state are introduction of proper nutrient management, water management via sprinkler irrigation system during the dry spell, seed treatment and facilitate of short duration improved variety seed in the farm level, results increase in yield rate of Tur in the state.

3) In some districts of Madhya Pradesh i.e. Sidhi, Damoh, Khargone and other remaining districts the estimated production for 2015-16 will decrease as compared to the previous year 2014-15. The expected decrease in Tur production in Sidhi, Damoh, Khargaon and other remaining districts of Madhya Pradesh are by 8.41%, 14.68%, 8.8% and 6.36% respectively as compared to the previous year 2014-15.
