MUMBAI (Commoditiescontrol) - The latest soybean crop survey concluded by The Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA) reveals that around 29 percent, or 33 lakh hectares of crop is under stress/poor condition. More than 81 lakh hectares of soybean is in good shape, but the crop needs few round of showers to increase the productivity, otherwise productivity could be affected.
The organisation said there are concernd for soybean in few regions of Malwa and Nimar of Madhya Pradesh, while elsewhere in the state, crop is looking good. Deficient rainfall in Marathwada (Maharashtra) has weighed on the crop. Meanwhile, elsewhere in the country soybean is growing in favorable conditions.
According to India Agriculture Department, soybean has been planted in around 114.17 lakh hectares throughout the country.
Madhya Pradesh: Soybean acreage in Madhya Pradesh, largest soybean producer in the country, stood at 59.04 lakh hectares and around 70 percent, or 40 lakh hectares of crop is normal-good-very good condition. SOPA rated 13% or 7.77 lakh hectares crop in poor state and 18 percent crop or 10.60 lakh hectares is under stress due to less rainfall.
Maharashtra: Soybean area in Maharashtra is estimated at around 35.77 lakh hectares and around 70 percent or 25 lakh hectares of crop rated in normal-good-very good shape. Around 30 percent of crop was rated as stressed-poor.
Rajasthan: The area in Rajasthan totaled 10.97 lakh hectares, while around 1 lakh hectares crop is rated as stress-poor and rest 9 lakh hectares is normal.
The organisation will release soybean production estimate in September, said Devish Jain, Chairman, SOPA.
