MUMBAI, 3 Oct (Commoditiescontrol): In the latest USDA cotton report, net sales of Upland cotton for the 2024/2025 marketing year totaled 95,800 running bales (RB), reflecting a 9% increase compared to the previous week, though still 26% below the prior 4-week average. The bulk of new sales were to key markets, including Vietnam (29,100 RB), Pakistan (25,400 RB), Peru (14,000 RB), Guatemala (11,300 RB), and China (8,500 RB). However, these gains were partially offset by reductions from Malaysia (17,600 RB) and Japan (100 RB). For the 2025/2026 marketing year, net sales of 39,600 RB were recorded, all destined for Malaysia.

Upland cotton exports saw a strong performance, with 107,100 RB shipped during the week, up 35% from the previous week, though still 13% below the prior 4-week average. The top destinations were Pakistan (26,800 RB), Mexico (15,000 RB), Vietnam (11,300 RB), China (9,700 RB), and Honduras (8,200 RB).

In the Pima cotton segment, net sales for 2024/2025 totaled 9,500 RB, marking a 13% decline from the previous week and a 17% decrease from the 4-week average. India led purchases with 6,200 RB, followed by Peru (1,000 RB), Djibouti (900 RB), Turkey (500 RB), and Thailand (400 RB). Exports of Pima cotton for the week were 6,500 RB, down 8% from the previous week but 4% higher than the prior 4-week average. India was the primary destination, receiving 4,500 RB, followed by Bangladesh (800 RB), Pakistan (400 RB), Egypt (400 RB), and Japan (100 RB).

This week's report shows a positive trend in Upland cotton sales, rising 9% week-on-week, though still trailing the 4-week average. Exports surged by 35%, driven by robust shipments to key markets like Pakistan and Mexico. However, Pima cotton sales and exports experienced a decline compared to the previous week, highlighting reduced demand in some regions, though exports remained above the 4-week average.

Key Takeaways:

Upland cotton sales showed improvement, up 9% from the previous week.
Upland cotton exports increased significantly by 35%, indicating strong demand from major buyers.
Pima cotton sales and exports declined but still outpaced the 4-week average in terms of shipments.
Malaysia was a notable buyer for future Upland cotton sales, accounting for all the 2025/2026 net sales.

This week’s performance underscores the ongoing demand for U.S. cotton, particularly in key markets like Pakistan and Vietnam, even as some regions, like Malaysia and Japan, reduced their purchasing volumes.
