Burma Lemon Tur:

Tur Lemon variety of Burma-origin fell by Rs 100 to Rs 5,600/100Kg, in Mumbai on cautious mill buying, at higher rates

Similarly, domestic variety Tur also fell by Rs 50 at Rs 6,000-6,050/100Kg at benchmark market Akola.

Sentiments are still under pressure on availability of Africa origin Tur stock at cheaper rates, ongoing new domestic arrivals and government actively liquidating old procured stock.

Government organisations in Karnataka has started selling last year’s tur stocks in the open market at rates below MSP and this has worried farmers as they fear that, they too, may have to sell for less rates.

Meanwhile, weather concern in key Tur producing belts was witnessed due to rainfall and cloudy weather. Arrivals may be delayed and also quality will get affected.

Arrivals of new Tur in domestic market continue to be below expectations. New Tur crop was expected to be lesser as compared to last year, due to fewer yields.

Market will keep a close eye on the pace of arrivals in Tur producing belt, after the festival of Makar Sankranti.

Arrivals of new Tur began in Vidarbha belt of Maharashtra. But moisture content was higher between 17-22% and mixture of 3-4% green variety.

Government procurement is expected to begin in current month at MSP of Rs 6000/100Kg may support Tur prices.

Moreover, less stock of old procured Tur was reported with government agencies.

Similarly, Burma Urad SQ variety in Chennai moved higher by Rs 100 at Rs 8,000/100Kg, while FAQ variety was priced unchanged at Rs 7,300.

Moreover, monthly demand and sale counter in processed Urad was witnessed at lower rates from wholesale and retail counters.

However, Nafed actively liquidated its procured old Kharif Urad in Madhya Pradesh.

Meanwhile, regular arrivals of Urad reported at Kurnool and Ongole Prakasam districts of Andhra Pradesh.

Chana Kantewala (Indore):

Chana prices moved higher by Rs 75 at Rs 4,675-4,700/100Kg in Indore on mill buying activity on immediate requirement for crushing.

Chana prices traded higher as more rains poured in key crops zone in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan which led to worries about damage to standing crop.

Key point in favour of more buying in spot is that the majority of millers are currently at lower end of stocks due to end of seasons and massive fall in prices. From here, any demand could trigger cumulative buying from major counters.

Sowing is progressing well and was 4.43% higher at 108.39 lakh Ha on Jan 6 Vs 103.79 lakh Ha in the similar period last year.

But, weather concerns in key Chana growing states continue to play spoil sport on recorded gram acreage.

Arrivals of new Chana were witnessed at Latur, Solapur and Rajkot market.

However, demand and sale counter in Chana dal-besan reported thin.

Moreover, Chana prices are pressurised due to government holding procured stock.

Tanzania-origin Chana, in Mumbai, gained Rs 75 at Rs 4,375/100Kg.

On other hand, Russia and Sudan-origin Kabuli Chickpea prices traded each, at Rs 4,450 respectively, while dollar variety Chana ruled higher by Rs 100 at Rs 6,000-6,400/100Kg in Indore.

Availability of imported stock, rise in sowing area this year and slow offtake in Masoor dal has pressurised sentiments.

Moreover, Nafed actively liquidated its procured old Rabi Masoor in Madhya Pradesh.

Sowing is also progressing well and was 3.22% higher at 16.37 lakh Ha on Jan 08 Vs 15.86 lakh Ha in the similar period last year.
