Mumbai (Commodities Control) - With the grain markets shuts, Central Government has advised the State Governments to let farmers sell their produce outside of APMC mandis amid nationwide lockdown. Centre has asked the State to forego mandi tax as well.

According to Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Centre has Asked the State Governments to expedite arrangements for procurement from farmers. In a video conferencing held on 8th April with state agriculture ministers, centre agreed to extend the deadline for procurement of pulses and oilseeds from 30th April. State Governments have been asked to ensure the procurement is completed within next 90 days. Although mandis are required to comply with the strict measures of social distancing to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection, State Government will now let the farmers sell their peoduce outside of APMCs. The decision was taken to help farmers in selling their produce easily. This will make it convenient for the Millers to obtain raw materials for processing as well. Infact Madhya Pradesh Government has turned state warehouses into procurement centres in the midst of labour shortage and transportation issues. Union Agriculture Minister has asked other states to follow this example to M.P Government. Similarly, Tomar has asked states to set up a revolving fund, a measure adopted by Rajasthan Government to make farmer payments under MSP operations. States have to ensure generating warehouse receipts and online reporting apart from online farmer registrations. State Governments are also required to ensure availability of ample warehouse space at the procurement centres. Pick-up and drop off arrangements for the labours and employees at these procurement centres is another task assigned to all the State Governments.
